DSGE Training Modules 5–6 | GEM
GEM Advanced Modeling · Modules 5–6

Think in dynamic economies.

Go beyond static equilibrium. Build, solve, simulate and estimate DSGE models using Dynare — with a focused pathway through New Keynesian, small open economy and empirical macroeconomic applications.

Not a list of lectures. A modeling workflow.

The DSGE pathway is organized around the way researchers actually work: define the economic mechanism, translate it into equations, solve the model, generate dynamics, connect it to data and use it for policy analysis. This workflow mirrors the hands-on approach used in contemporary Dynare training.

01

Economic mechanism

Start with households, firms, expectations, equilibrium conditions and the economic intuition behind dynamic macro models.

02

Computational model

Translate the system into Dynare, solve it, check stability and examine how endogenous variables respond to shocks.

03

Dynamic extensions

Move into New Keynesian and small open economy frameworks, including habit formation and policy rules.

Modules 5 and 6 can be taken individually or as one connected DSGE pathway.

Module 5 · DSGE Foundations

A hands-on introduction to DSGE models and Dynare, progressing toward New Keynesian and small open economy applications.

01 DSGE structure, dynamic optimization and equilibrium
02 Dynare model setup, solution and simulation
03 New Keynesian framework, Euler equation and Phillips curve
01 Small open economy DSGE models
02 Habit formation and richer dynamics
03 Monetary and macroeconomic policy experiments
01 Impulse response functions
02 Dynamic simulation results
03 Economic interpretation of shocks

Module 6 · Estimation & Advanced DSGE

Move from a theoretical model toward empirical macroeconomic analysis and model-data validation.

Research capability

What you leave with.

The focus is not simply on software commands. It is on being able to explain, implement and interrogate a dynamic macroeconomic model.

01

Build

Formulate households, firms, policy rules and equilibrium conditions.

02

Solve

Implement and solve DSGE systems in Dynare and examine model stability.

03

Simulate

Generate impulse responses and analyze macroeconomic shocks.

04

Extend

Move toward open economy and richer New Keynesian structures.

05

Estimate

Use filtering and Bayesian methods to connect models with observed data.

06

Advise

Translate model results into evidence for macroeconomic policy questions.

Connect your training

DSGE does not have to stand alone.

The GEM architecture connects CGE and DSGE as complementary approaches: CGE for economy-wide structural policy simulations and DSGE for dynamic macroeconomic mechanisms and policy transmission.
